EVFTA and great opportunities for the shrimp industry to break through

The EU is Vietnam’s largest shrimp import market, accounting for 20.5% of Vietnam’s total shrimp export value in 2019. From August 1, 2020, the EVFTA Agreement officially took effect. Accordingly, many key products of Vietnam will benefit from this agreement. Specifically, nearly 50% of tax lines currently have a base tax rate of 0-22%, of which the majority of tax rates are high from 6-22%, which will be reduced to 0%. For shrimp products, frozen shrimp (HS 03061792) is entitled to a tax reduction from the basic rate of 20% to 0% as soon as the agreement comes into effect. Other shrimp products follow a 3-5 year roadmap, only processed shrimp have a 7-year tax reduction schedule. This will give Vietnamese seafood a competitive advantage over major regional rivals such as India, Indonesia, Thailand and Ecuador (Thailand does not enjoy GSP, does not sign the EV FTA, and is subject to the basic tax rate. 12%, India without an FTA is subject to GSP 4.2%, Indonesia is subject to GSP 4.2%, Ecuador has a basic tax of 12%.)

Sunjin strengthens finding outlets for farmed shrimp products

Improve shrimp farming efficiency through “Biosecurity” solutions

Realizing the importance of this issue, last August, Sunjin organized a training course “Biosecurity in shrimp farming” with the guidance of Dr. Luu Thi Thanh Truc – Lecturer in Pathology. The course was held on the campus of Sunjin Shrimp Research Farm in Bac Lieu. All employees are trained well in actual shrimp farming conditions. This will help staff understand the essence of “Biosecurity in shrimp farming” in order to give the best advice and support to customers to bring about effective farming with optimal profits.

            To complete the process of raising Sunjin shrimp before delivering to customers, Sunjin continued to stock the second shrimp crop on August 27, 2020. After completing the process, Sunjin will transfer this technology to all Sunjin’s shrimp farming customers.
