Hello Customers!
The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has been making the situation of shrimp production and consumption in the world very difficult. The blockade order in many countries has caused the shrimp production – export chain to be interrupted. The severe economic downturn, accompanied by epidemics and natural disasters (new disease DIV1 in China, Cyclone Amphan sweeping through India, Bangladesh, …) have severely affected shrimp supply. from the world’s leading shrimp farming countries such as China, India, Ecuador, Thailand, Indonesia, etc.
World market demand is gradually recovering after the epidemic is under control and many countries are opening up. While major shrimp exporting countries are experiencing a decrease in supply, Vietnam – with an effective anti-epidemic policy, has minimized the impact of COVID-19 compared to other countries. This is a golden opportunity for Vietnamese shrimp to turn around in the face of the world’s difficult situation. In addition, the accession to the EVFTA agreement also creates additional tax advantages for Vietnamese shrimp products in the European market that India, Thailand or other countries cannot compete with even after the epidemic has passed. controlled.
In the domestic market, after a period of decline due to the impact of COVID-19, from the beginning of April 2020, the price of raw shrimp in the Mekong Delta is gradually increasing again. Shrimp prices inching up opens favorable expectations for the production of a new shrimp crop.
Recommendations to customers
The situation of drought and salinity tends to decrease because it has entered the rainy season, farmers need to have a plan to release shrimp to catch the opportunity that shrimp prices will increase again in the last months of the year. However, farmers should pay attention when stocking at this time because hot and sunny conditions alternating with early rains of the season can easily make the pond environment fluctuate sharply, the resistance of cultured shrimps decreases, and pathogens can cause disease. development event.
Farmers should also pay attention to the variety of shrimp sizes when harvesting, not just focusing on large sizes. In the context of the COVID-19 epidemic, large shrimp consumption channels such as restaurants, hotels, etc. have been closed, so demand has decreased. Meanwhile, due to a decrease in income, consumers will switch to using medium and small size shrimp more.
